Tye’s passion for photography began at age 13 when he first borrowed (stole!) his father’s Nikon. He started experimenting with black and white photography on the farm where he grew up in North Dakota, but it was not long before he was drawn away from this rural idyll and towards the bright lights of the city - where he discovered color - in both his life and his photography!
With taking photographs still very much a hobby Tye initially followed another childhood ambition and studied theatre. After college he moved to LA to pursue his acting career but found that he was spending more time behind the lens than in front of it, and so made the decision to go back to his first love - photography.
Tye is mainly self-taught but, while in LA, he also studied photography at the Art Centre College of Design in California to develop his skill and deepen his understanding of the technical side of the process.
Tye currently specializes in personal portraits and performance shots, but his interest in photography is far broader than this and he feels that he is just starting out on his journey as a photographer. He loves working with people, his talent is not just in how he uses a camera - it is also in the relationship he builds with his subjects, ensuring that his pictures still feel personal and intimate.
At the end of last year Tye followed his heart to the UK to be with his partner. Having acclimated to the weather and found his feet in London he is keen to continue his work and develop his career as a photographer in this country.
Tye sees every new shoot as an opportunity to extend himself and his art. He works closely with each subject to create and capture the desired image, while not loosing sight of the individual he is photographing.
